CONFIDENCE Program

Introduction

The Confidently Navigating Financial Decisions and Enhancing Financial Wellbeing in Dementia Caregiving (CONFIDENCE) Council was established to examine the obstacles that Latino/Hispanic families experience with paying for the out-of-pocket financial expenses from providing assistance or care to a family member or friend living with dementia. The Council members’ experience within the Latino/Hispanic community, as well as their own caregiver experiences, are guiding the development and design of content for the CONFIDENCE program.

What is the CONFIDENCE Program?

The CONFIDENCE program is an online education program that will address financial hardship among low-income Latino/Hispanic Families who provide assistance or care to a family member or friend who is living with dementia. The program will be delivered both in English and Spanish and will be delivered online and/or by telephone.

The primary objective of CONFIDENCE is to lower out-of-pocket spending when providing assistance or care to a family member or friend with dementia. These expenses include things like incontinence equipment, home modification, medications, and more. The content of the program will focus primarily on “displacing” out-of-pocket spending with other resources (e.g., community services), but also providing information on how to manage employment and caregiving and planning for one’s financial future.

Members

The CONFIDENCE Council is comprised of both professionals who work with the Latino population and non-professionals that are caregivers themselves. Most council members are bilingual and share a wealth of knowledge of some of the obstacles that Latino/Hispanic families can face when accessing information about lowering financial expenses associated with the care of a loved one.
