The events of the past week have profoundly hurt many of our caring communities, families and friends. We know that for many of you the issue of systemic racism is not novel. We know that COVID-19 has made caregiving in the community an essential way to protect yourself and those for whom you care. We know that racism, ageism and on-going health inequalities have always made it challenging to provide care for persons with dementia and chronic health conditions, especially in the African American/Black community. Our mission at the USC Family Caregiver Support Center/LACRC has always been to help remove barriers and support you in your caregiving journey. I want to share with you the message from the USC President, Carol L. Folt, that expresses our feelings and thoughts.
