Five day ‘fasting’ diet slows down ageing and may add years to life (The Telegraph)

The Telegraph (UK) published a story about research by Valter Longo of the USC Leonard Davis School on the benefits of a fasting-mimicking diet. “Strict fasting is hard for people to stick to, and it can also be dangerous, so we developed a complex diet that triggers the same effects in the body,” Longo said. “I’ve personally tried both, and the fasting mimicking diet is a lot easier and also a lot safer.”

IFL Science featured research by Eileen Crimmins of the USC Leonard Davis School and colleagues on how Americans are aging slower and remaining healthier than previous generations. Crimmins found that slowing the pace of aging was due in part to healthier behaviors, such as a decrease in the number of people smoking. The researchers recommend studying the impact of smoking, exercise and other lifestyle and environmental factors that impact the healthy aging process.
